Research Scientist – Computer Aided Diagnosis Algorithms

MeVis’ latest innovation is the Visia CT Lung System for computer-aided detection (CAD) of lung nodules and pulmonary emboli in multi-slice CT scans.

MeVis Medical Solutions has an immediate opening for a dedicated professional to perform research and development pertaining to CAD in the field of lung imaging. The successful candidate will conduct research on CAD algorithms to improve the performance and extend the scope of MeVis products for CAD. He/she will be responsible for analyzing clinical requirements from an algorithmic perspective, developing dedicated CAD solutions with a focus on 2D/3D segmentation, image descriptors and classification, as well as preparing and supporting their evaluation in clinical studies. Duties also include tracking trends in the medical imaging and machine learning communities as well as analyzing and assessing algorithms developed by our research partners.

The ideal candidate should have a(n):

Ph.D. or M.Sc. with several years of working experience in Computer Science or a related discipline, e.g. Biomedical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.

Extensive background in at least two of the following fields: Biomedical engineering, medical image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, data mining or applied statistics.

Proven track record in applied research and problem solving (e.g. scientific publications in high-ranking journals and conference proceedings).

Exceptional knowledge and prior experience in software development in Matlab and C/C++. Knowledge of other programming languages and tools like MeVisLab, Python, SPSS, R, Perl, VTK, ITK, SQL is preferred.

The ability to work independently and remain self-motivated on assigned tasks, in addition to being an effective team player with excellent communication skills.
